School Closings: Rhea County Shuts Down

This story will probably be a front page story in the Herald-News weekend edition
where as you may have already guessed, will be a day late as usual. So let us tell you
now what is in store for Rhea County school kids Friday.

Rhea County, Tennessee schools will be closed Friday through Monday because of a
widespread illness.

Superintendent Dallas Smith says the system must maintain a 93% attendance
average. Today, that average stood at 85%.

Smith says what is also difficult is the high number of teachers calling in sick.

Also closing Friday because of illness is 1st United Methodist Preschool in Dayton.
