The
Rhea County Newspaper
"Rhea County's REAL Information Source"
Herald-News feels pressure of alternative online publishing
competition; website remains down

Crakston Cryler, editor
Below is the news release that the Herald-News announced on the date
indicated. The website was said to have been inaccessible "part of Saturday".

However, the website seemingly first suspended it's search capabilities and
then ultimately rendering a total inaccessibility to their website.

The website that the Herald-News has is located at
www.rhea.xtn.net and is
rumored that all websites of several Tennessee newspapers which are owned
by Jones Media are also shut down.

Rumor around the area indicates that it is "bad business" for the newspapers
to maintain websites because often people will not buy the newspaper at the
news stand because with a simple click of a computer mouse they can read the
same story, printed by the same newspaper for FREE.

A recent test was conducted to satisfy a curiosity as to how much actual
newsworthy "news" was actually printed in the local Herald-News MINUS the
massive advertisements that the newspaper relies on in order to stay in
business.

The test revealed that only the first 4 pages of the Herald-News had any
significant news at all, and what news it did have was OLD NEWS virtually 100
percent of the time. Also, the simple test of clipping all newsworthy articles
from the "A section" of the newspaper and gluing the articles to standard size
notebook paper revealed that every story in the entire section used less than
four sheets of paper, stories glued on front and back. Pathetic.

All along RheaCountyNewspaper.com has held the firm position that the way
of the future is with computers and the old time newspapers are not going to
be any part of the future of media. Newspapers have served a tremendous
function but their time has come and their days grow shorter as technology
continues to advance.

Even the United States Postal Service feels the pinch of e-mail. The numbers of
people who correspond through e-mail are growing every day. Christmas
cards, greeting cards of all kinds. Animations, art, letters, pictures, music,
video and a kazillion other options are available to you on the Internet.

Even the website
Youtube.com ® can generate more media coverage than all
three of the local Chattanooga television stations combined by simply
uploading a video for FREE.

So there you have it folks. The Herald-News is indeed feeling the pressure and
every day you can count on RheaCountyNewspaper.com to bring you
interesting news and reports that most area newspapers are too afraid, or
otherwise refuse to print.

With all this in mind, it appears that the Herald-News wants to force readers
to buy their newspapers (at an already rediculous high price for it's content
and coverage) by stopping YOU from reading the front page stories they always
posted on their website.

After all, the front page of the Herald usually has about three, sometimes four
stories (old ones) and once you get past page four, that's about all you get.

Perhaps this story will shame Jones Media, the Herald or whoever owns the
advertising circular to get their website up and running. And while we sit back
and wait for them to shamefully comply, without nit-picking, I challenge each
reader who is reading this to test your investigative skills.

In every edition of the Herald-News that I have seen has the mandatory postal
information (usually required to be printed somewhere within the first four
pages of the periodical) it shows that the Herald-News is published by Rhea
County Publishing Company, INC..

A corporation is created (incorporated) by a group of shareholders who have
ownership of the corporation, represented by their holding of common stock.
Shareholders elect a board of directors (generally receiving one vote per
share) who appoint and oversee management of the corporation. Although a
corporation does not necessarily have to be for profit, the vast majority of
corporations are setup with the goal of providing a return for its shareholders.
When you purchase stock you are becoming part owner in a corporation.

Now, with all that in mind, and without addressing the lawfulness (or
unlawfulness) of posing as a corporation when in fact the company is NOT a
corporation at all, but just a "company", then a problem may exist, let's try
something different and try to solve the company or corporation mystery.

To solve this problem of possible deception, mystery or oversight, here is your
"Investigative Challenge".

Visit the
Tennessee Secretary of State website and conduct a simple search of
"Rhea County Publishing Company, Inc. and see if it is listed in the states
database as a corporation. Good luck!

Now once you have finished your search for a corporation that seems to not
exist pursuant the Secretary of States' website, continue your search using
terms such as "Rhea County News" and "Rhea County Shopper" and see what
you find. Good luck as you attempt to assertain how the Herald-News is
published by a corporation that seems to either NOT EXIST or was
inadvertantly left out of the state's database.

If that may be the case, try one more thing to satisfy your inquisitive mind. Call
the Secretary and ask whoever answers the phone if Rhea County Publishing
Company is a corporation or not.

Once you are satisfied that every corporation in the database under the search
terms used is inactive or otherwise REVOKED, click around and educate your
mind as to how Ed Emens is involved with corporations that have long since
been revoked, yet seemingly portraying to be a corporation.

Now, once you are done searching around for something that I sure can't find,
now click around on various business websites like these:
Goliath
and Dun and Bradstreet and this one as well D&B.

By the way, Dun and Bradstreet is the world’s leading source of commercial
information and insight on businesses, enabling companies to Decide with
Confidence® for over 165 years. D&B’s global commercial database contains
more than 120 million business records.

In any event, I think you will find that nowhere is there a Rhea County
Publishing Company, INC., and to confuse matters even more, the business
operated at the same address as the Herald-News is the Daily Post Athenian,
which also does business as Rhea County Publishing Company (NOT
CORPORATION). If you like, type in your search words at
Google ® and see
what turns up.

By now you will have learned that there is much more that NEEDS to be
learned about the Herald-News and it's integrity, or should I say "lack thereof".

I rest my case...
